Electricity is the lifeline of civilization and copper is main carrier of electricity. From this perspective, one can imagine the role of copper in our life. There are numerous usage of copper but it is the property of superior electrical conductivity that alone defines its significance.
With surges in all round developments in the country with impetus on electrical power, electronics and telecommunications the copper market has seen and will continue to see a sharp rise in demand. The growth in copper smelting and heat treatment shops is leading to high growth in the exports of annealed copper.

Copper in its most usable state

Copper after being extracted from its ore is treated in various ways to form different grades. The one grade which accounts for over 50% of usage worldwide is Electrolytic Tough Pitch copper (type C11000) for its universal applications in electrical power generation, distributions and utilities.

Electrolytic Tough pitch or ETP, the name derived from the special treatments - electrolysis for removing impurities and deoxidization for toughening, thus ‘tough pitch’ - the copper is passed through after being extracted from its ore to ensure conductivity standard of 101% IACS and purity of 99.9%.

ETP1 is even higher grade than ETP and of higher purity, used in the most demanding electrical applications such as transmission of power and signals. Other than superior conductivity (next to silver only) it also has superior corrosion resistance, tensile strength, elongation and shining appearance. High ductility of ETP1 makes it great for drawing, forming and machining works.

Available forms

ETP copper is available in different shapes and forms like bar, plate, sheet, strip, tube and wire.

Applications

Due to the combination of high conductivity, good corrosion resistance, workability and aesthetics, ETP copper is widely used for:
  • Busbars
  • Motor windings and components
  • Transformer windings and components
ETP1, with its higher purity, is used for:
  • Transmission Cables
  • Signal cable braid shielding
  • Automotive Cables
